Match Report by Hywel Evans!

Vardre were the opponents last Saturday in our first league game of the season. Spirits were high as we travelled over with a strong squad of 26 players and arrived there nice and early to go through our pre match warm up. Vardre youth's game was called off so with a sprinkling of youth and what looked like some decent senior players Vardre whilst warming up looked in a good place themselves before kick off. It was the home side that started strongly and kicked the first points through a penalty. We countered back and after some heavy pounding of the Vardre line winger Simon Borthwick snuck in the corner for our first try. Fly half Bryn Davies missed the difficult conversion. With 25 min left of the half it basically belonged to Vardre, that period they scored 4 unconverted tries and 1 penalty. Half time score Vardre 26 - Seven Sisters 5. We battled hard through the half but they had some dangerous "lumpy" runners which if we are honest we couldn't contain. It wasn't rocket science just straight hard running from them but it was causing us all sorts of problems, so if we could knuckle down and complete those first time tackles we could crawl our way back into the game. As the second half progressed we were slowly getting to grips what Vardre had to offer and were suddenly causing them problems, yes we were making mistakes but the contest was beginning to even out. Evergreen replacement centre Dafydd Francis made a great break down the blindside and after a few quick clear outs (which he was also involved in) another replacement, flanker Jordan Riseley showed good strength to power over by the posts. Fly half Bryn Davies this timed nailed the conversion. There was a long way to go but suddenly our tails were up but fair play to Vardre they managed to weather anything we threw at them and it was they who had the final word scoring under the posts right at the death to seal the victory. Final score Seven Seconds 12 - Vardre 33. At one stage of the game late in the first half it looked like it could have been a bit of a thumping for us, but credit we dug deep and the second half scoring was 7 a piece. So we can take a positive from that with our second half resolve. The tough games though keep coming and it's another league game this sat down in Skewen. Thanks for the effort boys lets take the second half performance into this weeks encounter.
