Half Time Chat Produces Another Win!

Thriller down West.

We followed the long trek to the west of Swansea to play Swansea Uplands this week. After our 2 losses all be it against quality opposition, emphasis was to get back on the horse and produce another "W" to get our league campaign back on track. The uplands though had produced an eye catching win against Penlan a couple of weeks ago so we knew we were in for a tough encounter. True to form after a few sorties from us during the first 10 minutes the uplands from a turn over put the ball through the hands and their speedy winger raced over in the corner for a fine try, it was excellently converted from the touchline. This gave us a little reminder we were in for a tough afternoon if we didn't get our act together. Standoff Bryn Davies stepped up and converted a penalty, then after a quick tap on the half way line a couple of passes later the ball landed into the arms of centre Andrew Holloway who ran through and around a few uplands players to score a quality try under the posts. Bryn Davies converted. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the opposition "literally" and it was us who ended the half with another penalty converted by Bryn. Half time score Seven Seconds 13 - Swansea Uplands 7. Let’s just say it was one of the more interesting team talks I have given for a while and just leave it at that hey boys!!! Start of the second half belonged to the uplands as they scored in the top corner where their number 8 was to the fore, this went unconverted. We didn’t panic though and as the half wore on so did our control and confidence, play now was almost entirely in our own little "coffins corner" in the bottom left hand side of the field. After a couple of phases scrum half Johnny Griffiths put in a brilliant improvised kick up the tram lines and only last gasp scramble defence kept us out but from the following lineout skipper Lindsay Jones crashed over to extend our lead. Our tails were up now and after a strong run from centre Andrew Holloway he popped it up out of the tackle to the "flying Scotsman" Mark Johnson who crash over near the posts, Bryn Davies converted. With time on the clock Uplands who never gave up launched 1 more attack from deep in their half and ended up under the posts to finish an excellent team try, the conversion followed and the official duly brought proceedings to an end. Final Score Seven Sisters 25 - Swansea Uplands 19. It was a great game of rugby and like I said at the start of the report it was pleasing to get our campaign back on track with a well fought win against opposition that will cause many a team problems at their home this season. It was back to the club house for a few deserved beers and what a transformation their ground has had since we were down there a couple of seasons ago, it really is a first class facility, well done to everyone who was involved in its making and we look forward to travelling down there again in the near future.
