Match Report by Hywel Evans!

Due to inactivity in the Vaughan sound cup, there was a free weekend to arrange a game. It was decided to visit Swansea and district section A high flyers Waunarlwydd. We arrived nice and early but Waun were in the mood as well as they were warming up impressively as we arrived. Unfortunately for us, as if playing against an "A" team was tough enough, their first was called off so a couple of their players were drafted into their 2nd team squad for the afternoons encounter. Anyway we were here and ready for the battle. Waun though dominated the first 35 mins and we didn't really get out of our half. Our forwards were doing fine and our mid field tackled hard but it was out wide where we were being exposed, it wasn't entirely the fault of our back 3 but the movement and intricacies of the Waun mid field caused countless overlaps which Waun exploited excellently sending their back 3 in acres of space and this is where most of their tries came. We gave ourselves a glimmer of hope to get back into the game when number 8 Lindsay Jones powered over from a scrum 5 but that was merely a minor blip for the Waun and they finished the half with 2 more tries. Half Time score Waunarlwydd 43 - Seven Sisters 5. As was previously mentioned it wasn't that we played badly during the half it was a case of Waun playing some excellent stuff which at times we couldn't handle. So the chat at half time was carry on with the same excellent effort but we should try and change our defensive pattern out wide so hopefully we could contain their strike runners. This had an influence during the second half as Waun only scored 3 tries, which didn't look likely during a rampant first half by them !! Final Score Waunarlwydd 62 - Seven Sisters 5. Although the score looks a hammering we weren't really "beaten up" and again our forwards more than held their own. It was their fire power out wide which really killed us during the contest. We were well pleased with our effort, we never gave up and it showed great commitment from our boys in that we were willing to travel away for a friendly to one of the better 2nd teams in our area. A well deserved week off now after playing 7 games to date this season, so looking forward to our next challenge Penclawdd home in the league next sat.
