Match Report by Hywel Evans!

With the World Cup dominating proceedings at the moment our game this week saw us make the short 10min drive (for some of us!) over the valley too Glyneath. Due to the Welsh game being shown at 4pm, it was an early kick off and there was no need for a warm up as the long walk too the "welfare" ground sorted that out. Both teams looked to have strong squads with plenty of extra bodies on the sidelines. The first half was dominated by defences, with very little clear cut scoring chances, defence was definitely winning the battle over offence. Glyneath's first try came from tremendous pressure on our line, it must have gone on for nearly 10 mins but our heroic defence cracked in the end and they crossed by the posts, unfortunately for them they missed the not to difficult conversion. After that period it was us who started to ask questions of Glyneath's tackling ability. Similar to us Glyneath's defence finally cracked and it was second row Gareth "tank" Jones who powered over, full back Simon Borthwick kicked the conversion. Half Time score Seven Sisters 7 Glyneath 5. It was an extremely attritional half with no quarter given by both teams. The second half was almost identical to the first but it was us who delivered the coup de gras right at the death. Glyneath had a scrum 5m out on their line but with an almighty shove from our 8 we drove them off the ball and started shoving them back to their line. As we were about to pounce a Glyneath player came from an off side position to kill the ball in the process of us scoring a try so the referee rightly so gave a penalty try. Fly half Andrew Thomas kicked the conversion. We collected the restart and gained another penalty, Andrew Thomas kicked the ball off the island and the official brought proceedings to an end. Final score Seven Seconds 14 - Glyneath 5. We were extremely pleased with the win as we haven't beaten Glyneath for nearly 6 years over many meetings between us. With Wales losing it wasn't the perfect day but it nearly was !
