Match Report by Hywel Evans!

With the whole of Wales having 1 eye on proceedings up at Twickers at 8pm, at 2.30pm there was another equally important game where we entertained our opponents Swansea Uplands to Maes Dafydd !! Playing down the slope we had an excellent start, after a few phases full back Andrew Thomas chimed into the line, with a hint of a dummy he scorched through the defence to run 20m to score near the posts. Fly half Bryn Davies converted. More was to follow. After a great line out drive it was flanker Ricky Mitchell who was driven over to score our second 5 pointer in as many minutes, again Bryn added the extras. Before we could catch our breath, the uplands centre took an inside line on our 10 metre line, he crashed through a few tackles and scored near the posts for an excellent individual converted try. This seemed to give us a bit of a kick up the backside as before that score it was all us and we were cruising. Second row Josh Hopton found himself in a wide open channel near the half way and with a subtle dummy and great outside break from the big man, he linked up with full back Andrew Thomas who looked to go searing in for his second but only a last gasp ankle tap stopped him in his tracks. Number eight Lindsay Jones though intelligently tracked Andrew Thomas and it was he who took the pop pas to crash over in the corner. We were at it again moments later, this time centre Andrew  Holloway found himself in the same area of the field as Andrew Thomas in the previous try but there was no ankle tap to deny him and he rounded the full back to score in the corner. Both tries went unconverted. We were in dream land just before the half finished but again with the uplands centre causing chaos in our defence they crashed over for a deserved converted try to finish the half. Half Time score Seven Sisters 24 - Swansea Uplands 14. We played some excellent stuff the first half and some of the tries were top draw, but the talk was we still had to concentrate as Uplands had some decent players and scored 2 good tries themselves, so playing up the slope we knew we couldn't switch off. The second half was more of an attritional battle, with some excellent defence from both sides cancelling out any attacks each team tried to muster. If there was any scoring to be done it had to be something special, so it was up to winger Shane Rogers to produce that magic. With a scrum near the middle of the field Bryn took the ball at 10 and went through a planned move. The move involved a dummy scissors with Andrew Holloway then a scissors back inside to Shane screaming in from the blindside, straight through the gap he tore, he rounded the full back and scored under the posts for a "beauty". Bryn added the conversion. Final score Seven Sisters 31 - Swansea Uplands 14. For the second week running we were involved in a quality game of rugby but the difference this week it was very pleasing that we registered our first win of the season and it was fully deserved. Looking forward to next sat and it's great to get locking horns again with our friends and neighbours Crynant after their absence so many years.
