With us just playing 1 game over the last 2 months, it was back to Cup action Saturday where we made the long trip down the coast to Penclawdd. The first were playing Waunarlwydd so it was an “old school” bus trip for both teams. We got there nice an early, so early the changing rooms were locked and we were the only ones there! After a great warm up the boys were buzzing and ready for action. We bossed the 1st quarter with our forwards in particular totally dominant but against the run of play their dangerous scrum half went down the blind side and with a little chip ahead he re-gathered and finished off a fine individual try this was excellently converted from the touchline. Immediately though we came back and after being denied earlier with a catch and drive from a lineout from a very dodgy decision by the ref, this time there were no complaints as number 8 Scott williams crashed over, Bryn Davies converted. The half was coming to a close and it looked like we were turning round with the slight wind at our back but utter confusion in our ranks resulted in one of the Penclawdd players capitalising on a couple of mistakes from us to score by the posts, this went unconverted. The last play of the game resulted in Bryn Davies kicking a penalty. Half Time score Penclawdd 12 – Seven Sisters 10. Apart from one bit of good individual play and a couple of mistakes it was all us during the 1st half, our forwards were having a field day in the scrum and the lineout was functioning great, the Penclawdd pack did not have an answer to it, our backs also whilst not spreading it about tackled and ran strongly for the full 40mins. One other major thing to come out of the half was they were certainly getting under the refs “collar” shall we say, with 2 yellow cards being issued through back chat, so if we kept the ref on our side coupled with our forward dominance and the slight wind the game was definitely there for the taking. Sure enough number 8 Scott Williams again capitalised from a magnificent rumble at scrum time to flop over the line for the first 5 pointer of the half, Bryn Davies failed with the conversion. Penclawdd at this stage were all over the place with another yellow card being issued and their best player the scrum half being taken off injured it really was backs to the wall for them and sticking the knife further into their belly was centre Andrew Holloway who latched onto a loose ball to race some 30m under the posts, Bryn Davies converted, score at this stage Seven Seconds 22 – Penclawdd 10. In all honestly that was basically it with around quarter of an hour to go, although to be fair Penclawdd did shove us a few times surprisingly in the scrum after it being dominant throughout the whole of the game and didn’t give up for the reminder of the final quarter. The final whistle went and we were in the hat for the next round, the boys came off the field absolutely elated but their tanks were completely empty and they couldn’t have gave more. It was a great result for us and that’s the second section “A” scalp we have taken during the cup run to date Mumbles being the other team who we beat back in October. So it was back to Waunarlwydd to pick the first up who had a great win themselves. It was a great bus trip home and a top day all round.
