7sCRaiser

All rugby clubs in Wales rely on volunteers to allow them to continue and thrive. Seven Sisters RFC is no different and volunteers have played a vital role in its 119 year history. When these people who are the heart and soul of your community, that have driven your club forward for decades face the toughest of times, it’s time to stick together. Having one person face the news of being diagnosed with cancer is bad enough, but when three stalwarts of one small ex-mining community get diagnosed, it’s brutal. That’s why, while these three legends undergo their cancer treatment, we as a club are going to show our support by fundraising for their chosen charities. Meryl has chosen ‘Marie Curie’ to receive her share and both Kelvin and Hywel have chosen ‘Golau’, a charity based in Singleton Hospital where the both are currently receiving treatment.

Over the coming weeks and months, our fundraiser, 7sCRaiser (pronounced Sevens C Raiser) will be selling raffle tickets and holding a band night with an auction on Friday, 10th June to raise as much money as we can. See our social media pages, website and club noticeboard for more details and updates on the auction and raffle prizes.

He also went on to represent Neath & District Youth. He earned his club badge as a player in 1969-70 season. After his playing days Kelvin went on to organise the entertainment in the club for a number of years and was well known for his position as Club Steward between 1996-2007. He is still a regular at the club attending the weekly quiz, watching the rugby and enjoys a pint in the bar. He’s usually heard before he is seen!

Hywel Morgan

Hywel Moc joined the club committee in 1990 and started assisting with the maintenance of the pitch in 1991, a role which he has held over the past 25 years. He also holds and maintains the club records and can give you any statistic you’ll ever want from fixtures played by Seven Sisters RFC, since records began! He was awarded his club badge in 1993 and the prestigious Clubman of the Year in 2008-09. He is always busy with a job in hand making sure Maes Dafydd looks sublime and is proud of his work. Hywel also attends the weekly quiz and enjoys a pint of Albright in the bar.

Meryl Jones

Wife and mother to Dai and Gareth ‘Tank’ who have featured on a Seven team sheet for decades, Meryl started volunteering in the club almost 17 years ago on the Carnival Committee. She’s gone on to become an active volunteer over the years by organising the catering for all the dinners and functions in the club as well as working in the burger stall, serving after match food and organising children’s parties in the club. She has been on the rugby committee for the past 12 years, was awarded her club badge in 2008-09 and the prestigious Clubperson of the Year in 2007-08.
