Top of table clash!

Titanic battle

Well the top of the table clash certainly didn't disappoint yesterday at Maes Dafydd. You know when a second team means business when they turn up (for what is a lengthy away trip for them from Pontardulais) at 1.20pm. The "Bont" came up with a strong squad and coupled with our strong squad it was game on. To be honest for the full 80 mins there isn't alot to write about as there were only 2 tries in the game which the "Bont" managed to execute either side of half time. The final score of Pontadulais 10 - Seven Sisters 0 though doesn't really do justice to what was a thoroughly entertaining game which was played in good spirit but with a high intensity that left many battered and bruised bodies after the final whistle. Two of the injuries in particular were quite nasty, firstly our veteran 2nd row Nick French who seems to have torn a bicep muscle and their scrum half who clattered heads accidentally with his own team mate and thus suffered a nasty gash to the head and concussion, we wish both a speedy recovery. We talked before the game about although we have dropped down to the B league it was important we carried on the good work from last seasons A league programme and where apart from a couple of games we more than held our own. Pontardulais certainly gave us an "A" league encounter and it was pleasing from our prospective we rose to the challenge and our attitude and skill levels etc are still with us from last seasons arduous campaign. Special mention mind and we don't do this often goes to veteran Simon Griffiths who although we had a full compliment on the bench + extras, we were struggling slightly for backs and so Simon admirably stepped in to play a full 80mins at scrum half, top effort Sime boy. So that was it really our first defeat but plenty to take forward as there were certainly more positives taken out of the game than negatives and it was a first class performance from all our boys. Next game Bryncoch home in the league, with their first not playing it should be an interesting fixture but if we stick together and carry on the good work another enjoyable Saturday afternoons encounter awaits.
